The company was incorporated on 29 December 1945 in Amalner by MH Hasham Premji as Western India Vegetable Products Limited, a manufacturer of cooking oils. [5][6][7] In 1966, after Hasham Premji's death, his son Azim Premji dropped out of Stanford University and took over as chairperson at age 21.
By 1989, Wipro had become a diversified manufacturer of computer systems, consumer products and industrial equipment, but as the 90s opened up, so did another transformation in Wipro’s story.
Wipro entered the information technology sector in the early 1980s, launching its first software product, a C-based version of the UNIX operating system, in 1981. The company changed its name to Wipro Limited in 1982.
