HISTORY. BILL CHRISTIAN. Bill was born in Warroad, MN on January 28, 1938. As a freshman in high school, Bill helped the Warroad Warriors take home a 2 nd place trophy in the 1953 Minnesota State High School Tournament playing alongside his older brother, Roger.
The roots of Warroad hockey can be traced to those days at the dawn of the 20th Century, when the sport was played on ponds, the Warroad River and in backyard rinks, traditions that continue here to this day.

Nobody thought much about the nickname “Hockeytown USA” which was bestowed upon Warroad in the 1950s, when boys from our town first began winning Olympic hockey medals. It fit. It made sense. This tiny hamlet, hard by Lake of the Woods, was and remains the cradle of American hockey. The game is in your blood from birth.
How many towns in America can claim eight hockey Olympians, five Hockey Hall of Famers, 10 current and past professional hockey players as well as a Stanley Cup Champion? The answer is one: Warroad, population 1,800. We are the real Hockeytown USA® and our history backs that up!
