Electricity prices in the UK peaked in August 2022, a seven-fold increase compared to the historical average of 50 British pounds per megawatt-hour.
There is currently an Energy Price Cap managed by the industry regulator Ofgem that caps the price of electricity for an average user of gas and electricity.
