This book is the very first book in the line of the New Series Adventures and forms the debut original novel that featured the Ninth Doctor. The book also became the first one to be released as a hardcover edition since the middle years of the 1980s.
Feb 26, 2017 · The very first Doctor Who book came out in hardcover in November of 1964. Titled Doctor Who in an Exciting Adventure with the Daleks and written by David Whitaker (who had the been the television show’s first script editor), it was a novelization of the 1963 television serial, “The Daleks” by Terry Nation.
The first Doctor Who novel was published in 1991 as part of the Timewyrm mini-series, entitled Timewyrm: Genesys and written by John Peel. Since then, the Doctor Who franchise has had many different publishers and book series. Below is a list of the Doctor Who books in order of when they were originally published:

The First Doctor has featured in many novels since his first appearance in 1963.
In 1964 and 1965, the Frederick Muller publishing house published three novelisations of Doctor Who television serials. These were later reprinted by Target Books in 1973, as part of their own line of novelisations.
World Distributors, Ltd published the Doctor Who annuals from 1966 to 1986. In 1966, they released an original novella featuring William Hartnell's Dr. Who. This was the first officially-published original long-form text story to feature the Doctor, and it remained the only such story until Turlough and the Earthlink Dilemma in 1986.
In 1974, Target Books began a range of novel-length adaptations of Doctor Who television stories. This range continued until 1994 but resumed again from 2018.

The First Doctor appeared in some short scenes in three of Virgin Books' New Adventures novels.
In 1994, Virgin Books began a series of novels featuring past Doctors, called the Missing Adventures. Five of these featured the First Doctor and his companions.
After taking the license for Doctor Who novels from Virgin Books in 1996, BBC Books began to publish a series of Doctor Who novels. Eight of these focused exclusively on the First Doctor, and one featured him alongside other incarnations.
