The academic year is the 365 day period that begins with the first day of the Fall Semester and ends with the day before the first day of the following Fall Semester. It comprises the Fall, Spring, and Summer Semesters in sequential order, beginning with the Fall Semester.
In 1802, approval was granted by the territorial government for the establishment of the American Western University, but the school was not operated under that name. Ohio University was recognized by the new state on February 18, 1804, with its charter being certified by the Ohio General Assembly.
In the spring of 1806, the trustees began to train pupils for the college's work. That year, a two-story building was completed by Jehiel Gregory on the College Green.
