New Palestine was laid out October 1, 1838, by Jonathan Evans. [4] It first consisted of fifteen blocks and thirty six lots. [5] A petition for the incorporation of New Palestine as a town was dated May 22, 1871, and presented to the board of county commissioners at the June session of 1871.

The Town of New Palestine was founded in 1871 and celebrated the centennial in 1971. The original plat of the Town survey report was of 17 lots on the North side of U.S. 52, and 19 lots on the South side.
Historic Facts about New Palestine. Area surveyed in late 1700's. A known Indian village corn field was taken over in 1827 on the current cemetery site. In the same year a school was started with 16 pupils. Town of New Palestine platted on 10-1-1838 by Jonathan Evans with 15 blocks and 36 lots.
