Ironman 70.3 Texas “cannot take place on November 22”
With just four days to go before the event, Ironman officials had to pull the plug on the rescheduled Ironman 70.3 Texas race in Galveston “due to the eleveated public safety alert that is in effect for Harris County, in addition to the stay at home orders and recommendations for Dallas, Travis, and other surrounding counties based upon the continued acceleration of COVID-19 infections in Texas,” according to a release from Ironman last night. The race “will now return on April 11, 2021.”
Ironman Arizona cancelled

Ironman 70.3 Arizona set to go this weekend
We haven’t had a report like this for a bit – here’s what athletes can expect when the arrive in Tempe this weekend:
Ironman 70.3 Greece Costa Novarino “rescheduled”
They have a new date for the event – October 24, 2021. Yes, we know … doesn’t that mean the 2020 race has been cancelled?
Ditto for Ironman 70.3 Graz
That race will now take place on May 23, 2021.
Ironman 70.3 North Carolina “cannot take place in 2020”
According to the Ironman update page, the race will return on October 23, 2021.
More European events “rescheduled”
Ironman 70.3 Aix-en-Provencein France had been rescheduled from May 17 to September 27 – but in the end the race couldn’t take place. There are still a few races on the Challenge calendar for 2020. The big one, of course, is Challenge Daytona with the $1 million prize purse for the PTO Championships. Ironman 70.3 Buenos Aires update
Originally scheduled for Nov. 1, according to the Ironman update page, the event “cannot take place in 2020,” and, organizers “are working diligetnly on all potential options.”
Ironman 70.3 Xiamen “postponed”
According to the Ironman update page, “Based on the mandate from the Xiamen Municipal Sports Bureau and the General Administration of the China National Sports Bureauin relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ironman 70.3 Xiamen triathlon, originally scheduled for November 8 cannot take place in 2020 and will now return in 2021. Race officials are working with authorities to finalize the 2021 race date and we will share that as soon as it is available.”
Same for Ironman 70.3 Shanghai-Chongming

Challenge Gunsan-Saemangeum cancelled
After making an attempt at offering a multi-day, all-indoor event, organizers had to pull the plug on the event during the semifinal stage of the race. “New restrictions applied by the authorities” forced organizers to stop the racing after three of the six semifinal rounds leading to the “Super Final” which was to be scheduled for the original race date. Esprit Triathlon goes, but has to switch all events to the sprint distance
Heading into last weekend’s Esprit Triathlon, organizers learned that they would have to limit the number of people at the event site to 250, which forced them to switch the race weekend to a series of sprint races – they ran three races on Saturday and Sunday.
