Jun 8, 2017 · The first American bandsaw patent was granted to Adam Stewart of Baltimore, in July of 1817. Stewart's patent was lost in the 1836 patent office fire, and so far we have only the patent title ("Band or belt saw") plus a description written by a magazine editor who confessed himself as "little acquainted with machinery in general".

By 1909 the Disston company occupied fifty-seven buildings on fifty acres. Its four thousand workers produced nine million saws annually, from traditional handsaws used by carpenters and do-it-yourselfers to huge circular and band saws employed by the lumber industry and in industrial settings.
The company went on to become a major American saw and tool manufacturer. Prior to 1893, the company concentrated on lumber, mill, and circular saws, of which they were a major player. Hand saws started to appear in the 1890’s catalogues.
1935 - The first DoALL band saw machine is demonstrated across North America. 1957 - We invented the first welded tip tungsten carbide and the first high friction sawing band saw blades. 1984 - We built the ARS-1216, the first microprocessor-controlled sawing system with automatic storage & retrieval.
