Camden is a town in Knox County, Maine, United States. The population was 5,232 at the 2020 census. [2] The population of the town more than triples during the summer months, due to tourists and summer residents. Camden is a summer colony in the Mid-Coast region of Maine.

By 1823, steamships arrived in Penobscot Bay with service from Boston, connecting through Bath to Camden and nearby coastal towns. In the late 19th century, tourists were discovering the Maine coast and Camden was no exception.
Maine became a state in 1820. Portland became it’s capital, and remained such until 1832 when Augusta became the capital. The Grand Trunk Railway was completed in 1853, making Portland the primary seaport for Canadian exports. Six hundred 19th century steam locomotives were manufactured by the Portland Company.
