"Ohio" is a protest song and counterculture anthem written and composed by Neil Young in reaction to the Kent State shootings of May 4, 1970, and performed by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Crosby summoned the other members of the group - Stephen Stills and Graham Nash - and they recorded the song in Los Angeles on May 21. Ahmet Ertegun, head of their label (Atlantic), flew the master to New York and had it pressed right away. "Ohio" was released on June 4, just a month after the shootings.
