In Episode 10, the Woodsman says he didn't know where Edelwood trees really come from. I find this hard to believe though. In the doll tavern, the tavern-keeper's song states that "we all" know about the Beast, and also clearly states the origins of the Edelwood trees, implying that the trees' origins are common knowledge.
I view the Woodsmen as sort of an expeditionary force testing to see if they could now come through. Having been successful, the message they broadcast was letting more of their kind know it was possible and that their was plenty of garmonbozia to be had.
