  8. And El Cid is the most consistent of them, but in the end I found it a bit dull. Perhaps the other ones are interesting because they are messes. The big problem is Charlton Heston’s El Cid: he is so consistently heroically heroic. He has none of the flaws of character that can make the epic hero interesting. He is always right.
