What should I pack for a Scout camp? In my experience, there are 21 essential items that should be brought to every Scouting campout, along with 15 extras that are always nice to have. These items will help you to be prepared for everything, while also keeping you comfortable and ready for fun!
The Scouts use the traditional BSA 10 essentials for car camping or backpacking campouts, but occasionaly, we have a survival campout where they can only bring our list of pocket items we gleaned from SAR training programs, including:
A pack stocked with the Essential Items For A BSA Campout (Troops often supply a few of these). A timeline/agenda of what you’ll be doing, along with a camp Duty Roster. An understanding of each activity you’re planning, along with the necessary tools to make it happen.
Packing list and gear check applies to all scouts, even if you are advanced rank. You may bring items not on the list if they adhere to BSA and Troop 794 rules and can be transported safely to camp. Examples of this would include amateur radio equipment, hiking poles/staff, binoculars, lanterns, fishing equipment, etc.
