David is perhaps best known for fighting and killing the giant and Philistine champion Goliath with a slingshot — a suitably awesome feat for the future king of Israel — but the Bible betrays some doubt about who deserves the credit.

King David is one of the more well-known figures in the Bible, and for good reason. He’s actually the most developed and complex character in the entire Old Testament.

- David was from the tribe of Judah. The 12 tribes of Israel descended from Jacob’s 12 sons, and with the exception of Levi, each tribe controlled a specific territory within the nation of Israel.
- David was Ruth and Boaz’s great grandson. The Book of Ruth is a story of love and redemption. It uses the relationships between a man named Boaz, a woman named Ruth, and her mother-in-law, Naomi, to paint a picture of God’s compassion for Israel.
- David was the youngest of seven sons (or he had seven brothers) After he finished the work of creation, God rested on the seventh day and made it holy (Genesis 2:3).
- David was from Bethlehem. Today, most people associate the little town of Bethlehem with the birth of Jesus. But centuries before Jesus, another savior came from this unassuming town.
- The 12 tribes of Israel. The 12 tribes of Israel came from Jacob’s 12 sons, with each tribe named after one of Jacob’s children or grandchildren. When we look at Jacob’s story, we see the Lord choosing to use his broken family for a significant purpose.
- Reuben. Reuben’s tribe had territory east of the Dead Sea. They weren’t blessed like they could’ve been because Reuben sinned against his father with Bilhah, as detailed in Genesis 35:22.
- Simeon. Simeon’s tribe had territory far west of the Dead Sea. Because Levi and Simeon took out their anger in violence when trying to avenge their sister, Dinah, Genesis 49:5-7 tells us that the brothers were punished by being scattered.
- Levi. Levi’s tribe was a group of priests in Israel. Levi was also punished due to his violence with Simeon and told that his tribe would be scattered. Levi’s tribe was different from the others because they were priests and not counted in Israel’s census, as explained in Numbers 1:49.

Galilee was made famous by Christ and his ministry. Jesus grew up in Nazareth (within Galilee) a town located north of Samaria and Judea. He performed countless miracles there not least when he walked on waters of the sea.
Aug 3, 2024 · Colossians 3:15-17: 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
