This paper explores the role of the internet and digital technologies in human trafficking as well as its use by institutions fighting the crime. It hypothesizes that the internet and digital technologies have been more of enablers of human trafficking than they help in combating the vice.
The study offers 21 evidence-based recommendations on how to enhance detection, investigation and prosecution of technology-facilitated trafficking, cooperation, training and legal instruments, as well as actions to prevent victimisation and re-victimisation.
