  4. There are close to 300 novels set in the Realms. The very first is Darkwalker on Moonshae (it wasn't originally meant to be a Realms novel, but it became one). The earliest novels I believe cover the Arcane Age. You are more than welcome to read in chronological order, however you don't have to it.
