The Forgotten Realms was intended as a somewhat larger than life, mediaeval-fantasy style setting. That's what it was designed as, sold as and what people want from it (4e aside, which pushed the larger than life fantasy a bit further).
Mar 1, 2019 · The Forgotten Realms is a fantasy world setting, described as a world of strange lands, dangerous creatures, and mighty deities, where magic and supernatural phenomena are quite real. The premise is that, long ago, the Earth and the world of the Forgotten Realms were more closely connected.
I know I had to add some of it together to be able to have it, but it is a list of each series in Forgotten Realms, and what order to read the books or the even how to read the series of series. Hopefully it helps some of you going through and trying to figure out how to read the series.
Here is a list of books from different editions of D&D that focus on sharing lore of the Forgotten Realms Setting. The first books are about general lore of the Forgotten Realms, while the latter books are about lore on specific, iconic locations.

For the purposes of this wiki only, the current date for Al-Qadim products is assumed to be 1367 DR. 2.BC stands for Barovian Calendar and is the calendar system used in the Domains of Dread. Van Richten's birth date is stated to be 671 BC on page 4 of Van Richten's Arsenal and in Van Richten's Guide to Werebeasts the author states that he was "born nearly threescore years ago," meaning that the 730's are the most rough approximation that can be given for the book's creation.
