A half note (or minim) is half the value of a whole note. Therefore, 2 half notes add up to the same length as one whole note. The half notes symbol is a notehead with a stem: Quarter Note or Crotchet. A quarter note (or crotchet) is a quarter of the value of a whole note. Therefore, 4 quarter notes add up to one whole note.

This line is called a stem. The stem halves the value of the note, and so a half note has a value of two beats.
Pentatonic - A five note scale. Quartet - A musical group of four players. Quavers - A half beat note. Rest - A period of silence. Score - A written piece of music using notation.

For example, whole notes and double whole notes don’t have stems, but half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes, and sixteenth notes all do.
This note is half the value – it lasts for 2 beats. Notice it has grown a stem from its head. The stem should point upwards on the right side if the note is below the middle line (B in treble clef), or downwards on the left side if the note is above the middle line.
Dec 30, 2015 · Half Note and Half Rest: The half note is named as such because it is equal in length to half a whole note. Thus, in 4/4 time, the half note is equal to two beats. The half rest, pictured here following the half note, indicates silence for the same duration as the half note. Quarter Note and Quarter Rest
