Over The Wall is a UK charity that provides residential summer camps for children and their families coping with serious illnesses and conditions. It is a member of the SeriousFun Children's Network, a worldwide association of camps for seriously ill children.
It was founded by Hollywood actor Paul Newman in 1994 and modeled on his renowned Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Connecticut, USA. Excellent, unobtrusive medical supervision helps children with cancer and other diseases forget illness, learn to have fun and rebuild their confidence and self-esteem.
The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp was founded in 1988 by Paul Newman with one simple premise in mind: to provide opportunities for children with serious illnesses to experience the transformational spirit and friendships that go hand-in-hand with camp.
Over The Wall provides FREE residential activity camps for children and teenagers living with serious health challenges and their families, to enable them to reach beyond their perceived limitations and rediscover a whole new world of possibilities.
ON THE GROUND: Over The Wall Gang Camp. Scheme: An Easter camp for children with cancer and other serious illnesses. Funding: £270,000 from the Community Fund, charitable trusts including Lloyds TSB Foundation and a individual donations. Each camp costs £50,000 to run.
