- Translation is a cyclical process in which ribosomal subunits that participate in initiation are derived by recycling of post-termination ribosomal complexes (post-TCs) that have completed the previous round of translation. Post-TCs first dissociate into free 60S subunits and 40S subunits bound to mRNA and with a P-site deacylated tRNA.

We will describe here the mechanism of translation initiation in eukaryotes, with a particular emphasis on translation factors and their function. The initiation of protein synthesis consists in the recruitment of a ribosome·initiator tRNA complex to the initiation codon of a messenger RNA.

Initiation Mechanisms in Bacteria and Eukaryotes. Even though the mechanisms of AUG selection differ fundamentally between bacteria and eukaryotes, there are important structural and mechanistic features of initiation conserved between these two kingdoms. To begin with, we know that eukaryotic ribosomes have 3D structures similar to those in ...
Translation initiation is the process of assembly of elongation-competent 80S ribosomes, in which the initiation codon is base-paired with the anticodon loop of initiator tRNA (Met-tRNA...

Dec 5, 2023 · Two main mechanisms of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4F (eIF4F)-dependent recruitment have been proposed: the slotting model (left) and the threading model (right).
Oct 1, 2012 · Translation initiation in eukaryotes is a highly regulated and complex stage of gene expression. It requires the action of at least 12 initiation factors, many of which are known to be the targets of regulatory pathways. Here we review our current understanding of the molecular mechanics of eukaryot ….
Jul 8, 2022 · Translation comprises four major steps: initiation, elongation, termination, and ribosome recycling. In this review, we provide a comprehensive list of translation factors required for protein synthesis in yeast and higher eukaryotes and summarize the mechanisms of each individual phase of eukaryotic translation.
