It’s the story of a good and loving God who creates a beautiful world, and of creatures made in God’s image who then go their own way and corrupt themselves and God’s creation. God calls a people to know him in a special way, with the aim of blessing the whole world.
God is love (1 John 4:8, 16), but He is also justice and judgment. The apostle Paul says that because God is righteous, He will judge the world (Rom. 3:6). In fact, a large portion of the first three chapters of Romans is devoted to a discussion of God's righteous judgment against those who persist in sin.
With the connection between love and God established, we can turn our focus to John’s teachings about “the love of God” (1 John 3:16). When discussing God the Father’s love for us, John provides critical commentary: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son” (John 3:16).
