Introduction. A new edition of the Lectionary will come into use in England and Wales on the First Sunday of Advent 2024. It will use the English Standard Version - Catholic Edition for the scripture readings and the Psalms and Canticles for the Responsorial Psalms.
The new Lectionary is a sign of the Bishops’ desire to provide the Catholic faithful access to a reliable and contemporary version of Scripture through which to hear the Word of God proclaimed in the Mass, and by this to grow as a people of faith.
