Lieutenant Carl Emerson, also known as The Last Mountain Man and simply known as Emerson is a recurring antagonist in post-apocalyptic TV Series The 100, serving as a major antagonist in the second season and a supporting antagonist in the third season.

He was portrayed by Toby Levins.

    Season 2

Emerson is first seen with Cage Wallace in the Command Center, planning the conflict. Shortly later, Emerson realized one of the janitors is Monty Green and tackled him. Later Emerson went for an assassination mission with a fellow soldier, Whitman. Clarke discovered him and captured Emerson. However, Emerson refused to answer Clarke's interrogation questions. Instead, Clarke sent him back to Mount Weather, telling Emerson she has a message for Cage. Clarke's message to Emerson was to lower moral for Mount Weather by reveling they know how to defeat Mount Weather's defenses. Before Clarke dismisses him, she reduces Emerson's oxygen, leaving him 6 hours to do an 8 hour hike back to Mount Weather. On his way back, Emerson rushed to the surface entrance of Mount Weather, however he runs out of oxygen and collapses from exhaustion. Cage suddenly walks outside and gives Emerson an extra oxygen tank to breathe. When Emerson looks up, Cage demonstrates that he is now immune to radiation and no longer needs a hazmat suit. Cage delivered Emerson to Dr. Tsing where she performed a bone marrow transplant from one the 47 delinquents and made Emerson immune to radiation. There, Emerson explains he knows the location of a Grounder meeting, where Cage reveals that they plan to hit the city with a missile strike. After that, he reappears and pushes the launch button and fires a missile on TonDC, killing 250 people and destroying the city. Later, Emerson and other guards tried to capture more of the 47 delinquents for harvesting. During their assault, they launched sedative gas grenades to incapacitate them. When they entered, Emerson was horrified to discover the grenades were diffused. Suddenly, the delinquents, lead by Jasper Jordan, sprung up and attacked the soldiers. Through the fighting and loss of soldiers, Emerson was forced to retreat. He also assisted in Cage while he was blackmailing the delinquents with Maya's life. Later, Emerson discovered Bellamy was a secret mole inside Mount Weather, so he ordered his men to shoot him. During the final war, Emerson attempted to blow open the doors to the Control Room and kill Clarke, Monty and Bellamy. Forcing the trio to hastily decide whether or not to kill every Mountain man. After the mountain was irradiated and every civilian was killed, Emerson begrudgingly ran away, being the only survivor of his race and people.

    Season 3

After Mount Weather's ultimate destruction, it was revealed Emerson was the one who told Queen Nia about the mountain’s self-destruct codes. However, Emerson was later captured and sent to Polis by the new Azgedan King Roan, to thank Lexa and Clarke for assisting in his ascension. At Polis, Emerson taunted Clarke in every way possible. Clarke debated executing Emerson, but ultimately ordered that Emerson will be exiled, so he can carry his pain as the last one of his race. Despite Clarke sparing his life, Emerson returns and attacks Clarke and her friends in a deserted Arkadia, intending to take revenge by forcing Clarke to witness her friends suffocate to death in an airlock before killing her himself. Emerson fatally stabs Jacapo Sinclair and successfully captures the others, forcing Clarke to beg for their lives without success. Desperate to save her friends, Clarke activates the Flame AI and implants it in Emerson's neck. As Emerson is not a Nightblood, the Flame liquifies his brain in seconds, killing him and ending the Mountain Men. After Clarke decides to use the Flame in order to destroy A.L.I.E., Bellamy Blake reminds her that the Flame had killed Emerson in seconds. As a result, Clarke uses a continuous transfusion from the Nightblood Ontari in order to use the Flame to destroy A.L.I.E.

Emerson is shown to be extremely loyal to Mount Weather since he refuses to reveal any information to the Sky People when they interrogate him. It is also revealed he wanted revenge for his race's extinction from Clarke, via torturing and nearly killing them in front of her. Part of this desire comes from losing his entire family, including his you...
