The announcement follows hot on the heels of Cambridge’s recent success in the UK Research Excellence Framework, where it was rated as the highest scoring institution covering all the major disciplines.

- Christ’s College. Students can join a legacy that includes such celebrated names as Charles Darwin and John Milton when they attend Christ’s College. Part of Cambridge since the mid-1400s, the college today educates undergraduates in all of the university’s subjects but veterinary medicine.
- Trinity College. Not to be confused with the elder Trinity Hall, Trinity College also has been part of Cambridge for hundreds of years and has an equally illustrious academic history.
- Pembroke College. Cambridge’s third-oldest college, Pembroke, flourishes thanks to what it describes as openness, remaining committed to accepting a diverse group of students who engage with one another, staff, and alumni.
- Peterhouse. Cambridge’s oldest college has produced groundbreaking inventors, Nobel laureates, and other luminaries since its founding in 1284. Admission to Peterhouse is selective, as it only welcomes approximately 80 undergraduates annually.
In the new QS World University Rankings, Cambridge received maximum credit in the criteria of academic reputation, staff-to-student ratio (which the QS rankings call 'faculty-student ratio'), and international faculty ratio.
The Tompkins Table is an annual ranking that lists the Colleges of the University of Cambridge in order of their undergraduate students' performances in that year's examinations. Two colleges— Darwin and Clare Hall —do not have undergraduate students and do not feature in the list.

The 2024 edition of the Complete University Guide has ranked Cambridge 1st out of 130 universities in the UK. The Guide considers a range of factors, including: an institution’s entry standards, research intensity and quality, student to staff ratio and graduate prospects.
