May 2, 2024 · The new sell-out ‘Rush Hour’ concert series returns, while the eclectic ‘The Hallé Presents …’ initiative features Nitin Sawhney, Honey Dijon and a whole weekend of Philip Glass starring Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Angélique Kidjo.
Hailing from over 14 different countries, they are extraordinary, multi-skilled individuals in their own right – soloists, chamber musicians, educators and more – who, when united in concert, create the unique and world-famous Hallé sound.
The largest of these is the records of the Hallé Concerts Society, but there are also private collections including the Richter Archive, as well a complete collection of concert programmes for the Manchester series from 1858, a photographic and sound archive.
The Hallé performs about 70 concerts a year in Manchester's Bridgewater Hall, opened in 1996. Hallé St Peter's is a grade II listed former church in Ancoats which was converted for the orchestra to use for rehearsals, recordings, and small performances, and as a base for the choirs and Youth Orchestra.
