"Gung" translates as "Work" or "To Work", and "Ho" means "Together" or "Harmony", reflecting the film's Eastern teamwork ethic portrayed in the film's storyline. "Gung Ho" was also the motto of the U.S. 2nd Marine Raider Battalion, and was then the title of its related black-and-white World War II film, 'Gung Ho!':
