Research Proposal: Assessing Western Hemlock Health Status in Two Contrasting Sites in the Old-Growth Forest at Seward Park; Research Road Map
For a decade, the Friends of Seward Park’s volunteer forest stewards and scientists have worked to understand the massive sword fern die-off in the old-growth Magnificent Forest. Now we seek funding to support professional scientific research into the die-off and forest health.
Mar 18, 2016 · We discovered a piece still exists in 2012 when we were presenting our project to the Friends of Seattle’s Olmsted Parks. A Parks employee at the presentation asked if we wanted a piece of the original torii that he had saved in his back yard, eventually using it as a balance beam for his children.
Jun 14, 2024 · In June, judges from the Green Flag Award (from Great Britain and Mexico) toured Seward Park with key SPR staff to gain a sense of how the park was managed and better understand what the park offered. This visit accounted for 70% of the score for the award.
With a planning grant from the Department of Neighborhoods, the Friends of Seward Park hired landscape architectural firm Murase Associates, working with Takumi Company, to gather community input on the design of a new torii. The torii was welcomed to Seward park on April 2, 2022
