Matt Smith had the best Christmas special being 'A Christmas Carol' but Capaldi had the best line-up to be honest. Last Christmas doesn't get enough praise as it should the plot is great. Husband's of River Song is an excellent send off for her, wrapping up her story completely and brilliantly.
The 2008 special, "Voyage of the Damned", is the most-viewed Doctor Who episode since 1979. "A Christmas Carol" is often considered by critics to be the best Christmas episode. In 2015, a DVD and Blu-ray boxset was released containing 10 of the Christmas specials.

- Last Christmas (2014) Written by Steven Moffat. Directed by Paul Wilmshurst. Alien meets Inception with a little bit of The Thing thrown in for good measure.
- The Church on Ruby Road (2023) Written by Russell T. Davies. Directed by Mark Tonderai. This will probably change rank as the context of the episode does: right now it’s the first step into a new era and a new Doctor.
