The story of Jesus blessing the children takes place in Matthew 19:13-15; Mark 10:13-16; and Luke 18:15-17.
Jesus Christ and his apostleshad left Capernaum and crossed into the region of Judea, on the Lord's final journey toward Jerusalem. In a village, people began bringing their little children to Jesus to have him bless them and pray for them. It was common practice for rabbis to lay hands on children and bless them. However, the disciples rebuked the...
The accounts of Jesus and the little children in the Synoptic Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke are remarkably similar. The Gospel of Johndoes not mention the episode. Luke was the only one who referred to the children as babies. As was often the case, Jesus' disciples did not understand. Perhaps they were trying to protect the Lord's dignity as a...
Many times in the Bible parents brought their children to Jesus to be physically and spiritually healed: Mark 7:24–30 - Jesus cast out a demonfrom the Syrophoenician woman's daughter. - The Gospel of Matthew. Traditionally penned by the apostle of the same name, Matthew is the first gospel of the four. This gospel was written for people familiar with the Old Testament, both the Law of Moses and the prophets.
- The Gospel of Mark. This is the shortest gospel. In fact, it’s possible that this gospel was written so that it could be easily memorized and told aloud—written to “go viral,” if you will.
- The Gospel of Luke. This is the longest of the four gospels—in fact, it’s the longest book of the New Testament for that matter. Luke is the historical, journalistic Gospel: a thorough account of the episodes in Jesus’ life arranged in chronological order.
- The Gospel of John. John is the persuasive Gospel. It’s written to show the miracles of Jesus, so that those who read his story will believe in him and have everlasting life (Jn 20:30–31).
Our main glimpse into the childhood of Jesus Christ is in the book of Luke, which revealed Christ’s deep spiritual understanding and desire to “be about My Father’s business” (Luke 2:49).
