1,178,256 students in the class of 2021 (34.9% of U.S. public high school graduates) took at least one AP Exam, up from 28.6% of the class of 2011. 758,842 students in the class of 2021 (22.5% of U.S. public high school graduates) scored a 3 or higher on at least one AP Exam, up from 17.2% of the class of 2011.

Massachusetts also had the highest percentage of graduates in the classes of 2018, 2020, and 2022 scoring a 3 or higher on an AP Exam during high school.
