   Can you hike Swallow Falls if it's wet?

   • Wet weather can create hazardous trail conditions, such as slippery surfaces and swollen creeks, especially during the winter when ice and/or snow is present. Sturdy footwear and crampons are recommended when trail conditions are slick. This hiking trail connects Swallow Falls and Herrington Manor State Park through the Garrett State Forest.

   • Swallow Falls was named for the rock pillar that once housed hundreds of nesting cliff swallows. It is not clear as to why these social birds no longer nest there, but it is thought the swallows relocated their colony to an area with less human disturbance.
