Where 40 euros/week is considered above average for a student, Penguin Classics are just not worth it. It's way more affordable to buy classics from Wordsworth classics, Collins Classics or Random House's Vintage series, which generally cost around 3 euros.
Aug 2, 2009 · From the bookselling perspective these hardbacks are good quality and worth looking at, Wordsworth collector's editions are very nice little hardbacks for £8.99 and nice quality. Penguin classics clothbound editions are popular. Chiltern classics are very, very pretty and excellent quality.
Penguin English Library editions are really pretty, and I own a lot of them, but they're not very practical—no notes or introductions and the binding tends to be really tight. Oxford World Classics are really great quality, but I don't care for the look of the spines and some of the covers are atrocious.
Dec 15, 2020 · The Penguin Modern Classics list began fifteen years later in 1961 and has grown into a celebration of challenging, radical writing from the last hundred years or so. To me, the Penguin Classics series is an attempt to gather the world’s greatest books into one place.
A review of all the paperback books in the beautiful Penguin Deluxe Classics series, with arresting cover designs and French flaps.

Ultimately it depends on what's important to you. I prefer paperbacks and mostly stick to the Penguin black spine or Penguin English Classics editions, but I like the way they look when they're slightly beat up. For translated novels, I go with whoever publishes the specific translation I want.
