The Martin County Convent Foundation is currently raising funds to restore the old structure. The two-story adobe dormitory has been repainted white. Inside renovations are currently ongoing. In resurrecting the past, maybe they can dispel the many legends created by overzealous storytellers currently surrounding the place.
Stanton was settled in 1881, mainly by German Catholics from Kansas, and that influence is still notably present in the community. Although no longer occupied, the 1884 Carmelite Monastery dormitory remains a prominent structure, and many streets are named for Catholic saints.

Old Sorehead Trade Days. Old Sorehead Trade Days is the best little show in West Texas (if you can call 615 booths and 30,000 visitors little). Stanton hosts Trade Days twice a year, four days of wonderful shopping. Shows are scheduled the second weekend in April and October.
