- Seven Churches. The book of Revelation opens with Jesus dictating to John letters to 7 churches: Ephesus. Smyrna. Pergamum. Thyatira. Sardis. Philadelphia. Laodicea. In fact, John addresses the entire book to these churches (Revelation 1:4).
- Seven Letters. Each church gets a letter, which means there are also 7 letters. These letters are the contents of chapters 2 and 3. There’s a lot to say about these letters and their structure, but none of them involve the number 7, so we’re moving on.
- Seven Spirits. Those 7 letters are addressed to the spirits, or angels, of the churches. Some people think these spirits are actually the human leaders of the churches, but in Revelation, angels are always actual heavenly beings, so I think John probably really meant angels.
- Seven Golden Lampstands. John’s vision begins when he hears the voice of Jesus, and when he turns, the first thing he sees are 7 golden lampstands (Revelation 1:12) and “in the midst of the lampstands, one like a son of man” who is pretty clearly Jesus, although like we’ve never seen Him before
Jul 24, 2024 · Jesus ascended to heaven (Acts 1:9-11) and will one day establish His kingdom on earth (Revelation 20:4-6), and He will rule it with perfect judgment (the “rod of iron”; see Psalm 2:7-9). The woman’s flight into the wilderness for 1,260 days refers to the future time called the Great Tribulation.
- A. The woman. (1) The woman is described in celestial images. Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars.
- B. The dragon. (3) A fearful, powerful dragon appears. And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads.
- C. The child. (5) Jesus’ ministry is described by its earthly beginning and end. She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron.
- D. Conflict in heaven. (7-8) War between Michael and the dragon. And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer.
Jul 8, 2017 · “Then the woman fled into the _____, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days” (Revelation 12:6). This is the church during the Dark Ages, when the papal Roman Church was on its rampage of persecution and drove the faithful followers of Christ into hiding.
Waiting to kill her child is a red dragon. The woman symbolizes Israel, the dragon is Satan, and the male child is Jesus. The male child is "caught up to God," a reference to Jesus' ascension after His resurrection, and the woman is able to flee into the wilderness (Revelation 12:1–6).
Jun 17, 2015 · I agree with Jamie's assessment of the, "beast with 7 heads and 10 horns referring to the antichrist system". King Herod's government was that system. It was the Dragon/Satan that gave this government/system its power, and it tried to kill the infant JESUS. King Herod himself is symbolic for the "red" dragon.
