Jul 9, 2018 · "Euterpe edulis is a nice palm that should be more widely grown in zones 9b/10a. It is finicky when young and slow growing for a few years. It also likes lots of water. But it has some good cool and cold hardiness, very similar to Archontophoenix cunninghamiana. This is the largest specimen at Leu Gardens.

Sep 12, 2024 · Euterpe edulis (the juçara palm, palm heart, or juçaizeiro) has a natural distribution in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, occurring from the coast of Bahia to Rio Grande do Sul and extending to eastern Paraguay and northern Argentina (Fig. 3; Reis et al. 2000).
Euterpe edulis is a subcanopy palm that grows in Brazil’s Mata Atlântica rainforest and has been so intensively harvested for heart of palm that it is now in decline. It prefers aquic soils and is often found in swampy areas.
