There is no comprehensive grammar focusing on the English verb phrase, although there is an extensive treatment of it in Huddleston & Pullum (2002), as well as in the earlier Quirk grammars (Quirk et al. 1972, 1985).
Apart from introducing the full apparatus of terms and concepts used in descriptive linguistics, it offers a detailed description of the structure of English syntax, semantics and inflectional morphology. In doing so it devotes special attention to the English systems of tense, aspect and modality.
