Will you remember where you were during the Great Streaming Wars of 2020? Well, probably you'll remember that you were home... streaming a lot of television. But the bottom line is, the events of 2020 certainly hastened the importance of streaming in the entertainment world as movie theaters were shut down in vast swaths, even while upstart streamers like HBO Max and Disney+ sought to gain a foothold over powerhouses like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Where will it all wind up? Who can say for now...
Netflix cements itself as the streaming king with a vast and diverse library of movies and TV shows that currently dwarfs any other platform available. With an estimated $15 billion earmarked in 2019 for developing and acquiring new content, the streamer has plenty of budget to stay ahead of its competitors.

Amazon Prime Video may not have quite the wealth of original content that Netflix brings to bear, but it does feature a well-rounded library that includes both critically acclaimed original series and movies and mainstream hits. The ability to bolster that library through Prime Channels and a la carte purchases is an added perk. The interface could use some fine-tuning, but that content library and a fairly aggressive pricing strategy ensure that Prime Video is a strong option for users who either want to use it as their go-to streaming source or as a backup to a Netflix or Hulu subscription.

Disney+'s impressive lineup of old and new movies and TV shows is reason enough for any Disney fan to subscribe. Thanks to 4K streaming at no extra charge and the ability to download titles for offline viewing, Disney+ is well-positioned to compete with any streaming service out there.

WarnerMedia's HBO Max streaming service has an impressive library of beloved shows and movies to binge - offering what is arguably the most robust and broad selection of recognizable properties for both adults and kids (something Disney+ struggles with). If you're already an HBO subscriber, for the same price HBO Max opens the door to an incredible array of new and classic titles, as well as a few entertaining original series, with the promise of more to come.

Hulu's strength lies not with its original content or catalog of big movies (though there's plenty to choose from), but with its traditional network offerings and Live TV plan option. It's the first step, and sometimes only step, for cord-cutters looking to lower their monthly bill while keeping most of what they used to watch on regular TV.
