I woke up to snow on Christmas Eve – it was just the morning to watch Joel Thompson’s The Snowy Day, which premiered at the Houston Grand Opera on 9 December. In her opening remarks, Khori Dastoor, HGO’s General Director, said that through the magic of opera it could snow in Houston on a 78°F day.

Dec 19, 2021 · I recommend the Houston Grand Opera world premiere production of Thompson’s and Pinkney’s “The Snowy Day” to all audiences of all ages, whether veteran opera goers or persons new to opera; and consider it to be a child-friendly opera, especially appropriate for the winter holiday season.

Nov 13, 2021 · The Houston Grand Opera is set to world premiere Joel Thompson and Andrea Davis Pinkney’s “The Snowy Day.” The opera, which is based on a book by Ezra Jack Keats, will star Karen Slack, Raven McMillon, Nicholas Newton, Elena Villalón, Blake Denson, Cory McGee, Andres Acosta, and Ricardo Garcia.
