A resit is where an apprentice has been deemed as ready for the EPA, but has failed on the day, or was unable to sit on the scheduled date. A retake is where the apprentice has failed the EPA where the assessment has highlighted gaps in knowledge which require further work prior to retaking the EPA.
A resit is a reassessment opportunity given to students who have failed an assessment/module. It enables the student to re-take the affected assessment, however there are conditions to this: For Undergraduate degree, any mark obtained in a resit: Will show on your final degree transcript (as a second attempt).
A re-sit involves the apprentice sitting one or more failed components of EPA again, without the need to undertake further training. Re-sits can only be taken where an assessment has been failed, and not to increase the grade (for example from a Pass to a Distinction).
Resits and retakes are available to apprentices with their employers’ authorisation due to additional costs. It is important to consider whether a retake or a resit is more appropriate. In most instances if only one assessment method needs to be reassessed then a resit is the right choice.
