This was especially effective in make-up for actors performing indoors by candlelight or for fairies (as in A Midsummer Night’s Dream). When two characters wore the same make-up and wigs (and often costumes too) you knew they were twins – even if they did not really look alike.
A Midsummer Night's Dream is a comedy play written by William Shakespeare in about 1595 or 1596. The play is set in Athens, and consists of several subplots that revolve around the marriage of Theseus and Hippolyta. One subplot involves a conflict among four Athenian lovers.

The aim of this session is to practice drawing the texture and colour of faux fur before moving onto designing a costume for Bottom, with his Donkey’s head – and with inspiration taken from the historical dress of the Elizabethan rural working class.
We have a great range of costumes that can be adapted for this play from Hippolyte the queen, Hermia and Helena the young female lovers to costumes for Oberon and Titania, the king and queen of the fairies.
