Nov 16, 2016 · Nanny to me means as you say a paid person to look after children. Nan or nannie seems fine although I am called gran. I am called 'ma', not may ways for that to go wrong! I'm Grandma to some and Nanny to others I haven't ever seen it spelt Nannie before.
Maternal was gran, paternal was nanny. I was quite young when my paternal grandmother died, but I think she'd have turned into Nan as I got older. I'm from Shropshire, but my gran was Scottish, and my nanny from was from the East End. My maternal great-grandmother, who died when I was a teenager, was great-gran.
