Mar 2, 2024 · The best Hawaiian island for hiking is Oahu. Oahu’s hiking trails cover the two volcanic mountain ranges that flank the island. Oahu’s abundant network of trails gives opportunities for beginner to advanced hikers. One can enjoy waterfall hikes, WWII pillbox hikes, or coastal ridges on Oahu.
- Makapuʻu Point Lighthouse Trail, Oʻahu. Best for beginners and parents with strollers. 2 miles round trip, 1 hour, easy. Leading to a historic lighthouse on Oʻahu, this is easily one of the most scenic – and accessible – hikes on the island.
- Kaiwa Ridge Trail (a.k.a. the Lanikai Pillbox Trail), O‘ahu. Best sunrise hike. 1 mile, 1 hour, moderately difficult. If you want to catch the sunrise over one of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii (and arguably the world), head to Lanikai on Oʻahu’s Windward side.
- Koko Crater Botanical Garden Loop, Oʻahu. Best hike for nature lovers. 2 miles, 1 hour, easy. This may be a municipal green space but the 200-acre Koko Crater Botanical Garden in East Honolulu offers a nice, unpaved 2-mile loop trail through its collection of rare and endangered dryland plants.
- Kaʻena Point Trail, Oʻahu. Best hike to see wildlife. 3.5 miles, 3 hours, easy to moderate. The Kaʻena Point Natural Area Reserve on Oʻahu’s westernmost end represents one of the last intact sand dune ecosystems in the main Hawaiian Islands.
Aug 1, 2011 · For more or less experienced hikers alike, the Jepii Mari trail would be perfect for a day hike, with a lovely lunch stop at the nice huts up the mountain. If you’re confident you’re in brilliant shape, I do recommend trying mixing the falls with the completion of the train in the same day.

Hiking to the top of the Bucegi Plateau from Bușteni involves over 1,100 m (3,600 ft) of vertical. Starting from town, follow the blue cross trail up the Caraiman Valley. You’ll follow the cable car the entire way.
