Dec 21, 2023 · What Does Bhuvah Loka Mean? In Hindu cosmology, there are seven lokas, or distinct universe sectors, with the bhuvah loka as third on the list and representing the subtle universe. The bhuvah loka is significant as it connects the realism of a higher power (or God) with the nature of worship needed to find it (or Him).
And the Gayatri mantra refers to all 14 of them in this way: Bhuh represents both the Earth and all the 7 lokas below it, Bhuvah represents only Bhuvah, and Svah represents both Svah and all the 4 remaining lokas above it.

Urdhva lokas. The seven upper heavenly locations. The Urdhvalokas (Sanskrit: ऊर्ध्वलोक, romanized: Ūrdhvaloka) or upper spheres of the world, are composed of seven lokas or worlds, according to Hindu mythology. The detailed explanation of them is found in the Vishnu Purana.
These are: (i) Bhū-loka, the physical earth; (ii) Bhuvar-loka, the world next to the physical and closely connected with it, but constituted of finer matter, and (iii) Suvar-loka, has heavenly world.
