Moomintroll and Sniff leave Moominhouse on a little raft to travel to the observatory in the Lonely Mountains, with a bag packed by Moominmamma with pancakes and warm trousers and other necessities. They venture into the “Unknown, wild and enticing”.
The comet actually endangers Moominvalley and leaves visible damage to the rocks and the ground, as well as scattered meteorites, which the Moomins collect as they observe the return of the sea.
