He wanted to end the show on a high but also confessed to loving the characters so much he could see himself returning to make a one-off special or more episodes. The end of the second season of Gravity Falls aired all the way back in 2016 and since then, news about Gravity Falls season 3 have been scarce. With how well the show was received, you would expect it to continue for a couple more seasons, until interest drops as the plot becomes worse and worse, and it ultimately gets canceled.
