  5. Any adult can suffer abuse or neglect from anyone in their lives. Abuse can include physical abuse, sexual abuse, psychological abuse, financial abuse and neglect. For older adults, abuse can include coercive control, neglect or acts of omission, discrimination, modern slavery, domestic abuse and cuckooing.

  6. It protects those who cannot make their own decisions about a particular matter for any reason whether temporary or permanent. It applies to people aged 16 years and over. A person’s mental capacity (ability) may vary over time and/or may depend on the type of decision that needs to be made.

  7. If you think someone is at immediate risk. If there's an immediate risk of harm, call the emergency services on 999. If you're very concerned about someone's health or welfare but don't think it's an emergency, call 111 for NHS advice, 24 hours a day.
