Having left a huge legacy, but also many things unfinished, I always wondered what would have come next if he lived for another 10-15 years, while being capable of doing so. Personally I think he would have expanded a bit more on the Rohirrim and the Dwarves. And he may have revised some stories of the Silmarillion.
