    On 26th May 1916, the Illustrated Chronicle showed a photograph of a group of Tyneside Engineers in Training. Sappers George Ward, Fred Hakanson, Steve Hunter, and Austin Huntley were all noted as being from South Shields.

    A home video from 3rd August 1987 records the busy market, the heaving pedestrianised King Street shopping area with the Woolworths store, a ship docked at the waterfront, and views across the parks to the funfair and seaside.
