Hornblower is a series of British historical fiction war television films based on three of C. S. Forester 's ten novels about the fictional character Horatio Hornblower, a Royal Navy officer during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. The series ran from 7 October 1998 until 6 January 2003, with Ioan Gruffudd in the title role.
Ioan Gruffudd has expressed his wish to do some of the later novels at some point, however there is no more Hornblower. In terms of TV/movies, you could watch Sharpe (lots of it) or Master and Commander (one film). is a TV adaptation of novels Mr. Midshipman Hornblower, Lieutenant Hornblower and (loosely) Hornblower and the Hotspur.
The series stars Ioan Gruffudd in the title role and was produced by the British broadcaster Meridian Television, and shown on ITV in the UK and A&E Television Networks in the United States. In September 2009, ABC2 started broadcasting a rerun of the series in Australia.
The complete series was published on DVD both individually and as a box set.
