The name Mordialloc is a corruption of two aboriginal words Murdi or Moordi and Yallock, the latter meaning creek or stream. Professor Scott thinks Murdi or Moordi means flat of lying flat. Mordialloc night, therefore, be translated as ‘Flat Water’ or ‘Swampy Water’.
